The Roman Colosseum, Italy Number 47 on the list might be just as amazing as number one. he point one should take from this list, is that they are all best places to see in Europe, and we should see them all! So put this list on your bucket list of lifetime accomplishments, and get to work! This will be a 10 part series, that will sometimes include top travel blogger’s picks and favorites in Europe, as well as their photos. so without further adieu, here is…

Photo and words by Paula of Contented Traveller, The Colosseum was built in 72 A.D, and has remained the largest amphitheater in the world. It is considered to be Rome´s most popular tourist attraction. I had seen it in books, films, and in fact taught Roman History for longer than I can even remember, but my first sighting of the Colosseum was overwhelming to say the least. The building once accommodated more than 55,000 spectators and was home to many games featuring gladiators and wild animals. Festivals as well as games could last up to 100 days in the Coliseum. Yes, it has its cheesy gladiators out the front but it’s one of the most famous places to see in Europe for a good reason. The guides can make the place come alive with their stories.
